This blogpost is quite especial, as it brings us back to one of our favourite trips yet.

In 2019 we decided to volunteer in Sicily for a couple of months and it was an incredible experience. We were roommates and were actually afraid of getting tired of each other. We already knew that we‘re both more productive at night and that we never go to sleep early and we were also uncertain about being together 24/7 as we like to spend some time alone. In short, turns out it was easy to share our space and time, and even became closer.

At the weekends, for two entire months, we travelled all around the island. One day it was time to visit Érice. Getting there was, as always, an adventure…

Something we learned in Sicily was to trust that everything will be fine. There isn't always public transport, even within some villages, or schedules are scarce. So, still in Trapani – the coastal city next to Érice - we had walked several kms when a bus finally passed by and took us to the cable car. It was here – Trapani - that we once again felt Sicilians’ great hospitality and sympathy.

The cable car ride took a bit long, but for us it could take a few more minutes because the view was so lovely. However, when we reached the top of the mountain, we were immersed in another charm, a medieval village that seemed to have stopped in time and that made us want to see more and more of each and every corner.

In fact, it seemed that we had travelled in time - before going up, the weather was so hot and then there was a very different temperature up there - luckily we were prepared with sweaters! This microclimate reminded us of Portugal, as this is very typical of Serra de Sintra. On the other hand, the medieval part reminded us of Óbidos.

After a while, we found the place where we had the most spontaneous session in the history of Magma so far.

I was a little further behind and Inês entered a small door and called me immediately. As soon as I came in I understood the enthusiasm in her voice and we knew that we had to do something there. It looked like a rustic dollhouse. There was a wooden church bench, filled with papers - the top was completely covered - and where we could read dedications and experiences from previous visitors. The problem was that the place of this session was closing and nobody seemed to know we were there. We decided to take a chance and in the end everything went well and we didn't get stuck there.

We’re very nostalgic people by nature, so we always want to go back to where we were happy. And we have to, because due to this session we ended up not having time to see other landmarks that should take our breath away just as much.
